The dam located in a small town called Chakra Nagar near the city of Shimoga. Chakra dam was built as a balancing reservoir and does not have sluice gate to the Linganamakki Dam. The Chakra River is a river flowing through Kundapur and Gungulli in western India. It originates in Kodachdri peak. It joins with the Souparnika River, Varahi River and Kubja River and merges into the Arabian Sea. The Chakra dam is a project managed by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).Tourists have to obtain special permission to visit the dam area.
