Amritsar, the famous city located in punjab state of north India is known for warm welcome, tasty food and for housing an important Sikh shrine, 'Golden Temple' is the holiest gurdwara of the Sikh religion. Amritsar is a city that holds a significant position in terms of religion as well as history. Being a cultural centre of Sikh religion, Jallianwala Bagh is also one of the famous places to visit in the city. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar which witnessed the massacre of peaceful celebrants including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces on 13 April 1919. It also houses a memorial of national importance, established in 1951 by the Government of India. Jallianwala Bagh is situated close to the Golden Temple and is a must visit when in Amritsar. Wagah Border is another important place to visit during your tour to Amritsar. This international border defines Indian and Pakistan territory. Tourists travel this border to experience evening parade. Harike Bird Sanctuary is the largest bird sanctuary of India. Amritsar is located at approximately 226km from Chandigarh, 466km from New Delhi.
