The Krishna Raja Sagara Dam or KRS Dam was built across river Kaveri, near Krishnarajasagara town where three rivers namely, Kaveri, Hemavathi & Lakshmana Thirtha, in Mandy District of Karnataka, India. It is one the most famous dams in South India Named after Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV of Mysore. KRS Dam is also locally called as Kannambadi Katte or Dam. Apart from being the main source of water for irrigation in Mysore and Mandya district, It is the main source of drinking water for all of Mysore city and almost the whole of Bangalore city. Sir.M.Visvesvaraya 19th Diwan of Mysore, was the mastermind behind the design and construction of this majestic KRS Dam. Brindavan Gardens adjacent to the dam along with reservoir is one of the major tourist places near Mysore. KRS Dam is located at approx 20km from Mysore, 45km from Mandya, 143km from Bengaluru, 253km from Mangalore.
