Desert National Park Overview

Desert National Park is a unique and the only habitat of its type in the Indian subcontinent situated in the districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer in Rajasthan, India. The Desert National Park is one of the largest national parks, covers an area of 3162 km² of which 1900 km² is in Jaisalmer district and remaining 1262 km² is in Barmer district of Rajasthan State. The area falls in the extreme hot and arid region of very low rainfall zone of the country. Despite a fragile ecosystem, there is an abundance of birdlife and also houses one of the heaviest flying birds in the world, the endangered Great Indian Bustard. Desert National Park is in tentativelists of World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Desert National Park is located at approx 46km from Jaisalmer, 329km from Jodhpur, 605km from state capital Jaipur.
