Umiam Lake Overview
Umiam Lake. More popularly known as Barapani or Big Water lake this is the biggest artificial lake in the State of Meghalaya. Located at 15 km north of Shillong the state capital. The lake was formed after a dam was constructed to generate hydroelectric power. The scenic Umiam Lake is encircled by lush green East Khasi hills that form one of the best panoramic sights for nature-lovers in the country.
