Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the famous wildlife sanctuaries situated in Shimogga. It was declared as a wildlife sanctuary on Nov, 23 1974. This wildlife sanctuary is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary covers an area of 395.6 sq. km. The sanctuary is divided into three zones, namely- core zone(100.6 sq. km), buffer zone(237.4 sq. km) and tourism zone(57.6 sq. km). Unlike other sanctuaries, there are human settlements inside this sanctuary. This makes it quite unique. The Shettihalli sanctuary is 30 km away from Teerthahalli. Mandagadde Natural Bird Santuary is part of Shettihalli Wildlife Santuary. The Tunga Anicut Dam is situated within the sanctuary and provides shelter for otters and water birds. Best season to visit Shettihalli Wildlife sanctuary is between November and January.
