Linganamakki Dam Overview

The Linganamakki Dam is one of the major dam in Karnataka, which is constructed across Sharavati river near World famous Jog Falls. Linganamakki Dam is located near Kargal village of Sagara taluk in Shimoga district of Karnataka, India. It receives water mainly from Sharavati river rainfall catchment areas and also from the Chakra and Savahaklu reservoirs, which are linked through Linganamakki through a canal. The dam's height is 1819 feet above sea level and forms a beautiful backwaters, dotted with myriad islands is also called as Honnemaradu Backwaters. Honnemaradu Backwaters is an haven for trekkers and adventure lovers, surrounding area is filled with lots of hills, small waterfalls, reservoirs and trekking routes, which make its one of the must visit places in the region. Siganduru Ferry is one of the things to do. The reservoir is the source for the Sharavathi hydel power project that has an installed capacity to generate 1,469 MW power and supplies electricity to major portions of the Karnataka state. Linganamakki Dam is located at approx 6km from Kargal, 14km from Jog Falls, 101km from Shivamogga, 124km from Gokarn, 402km from Bengaluru, 236km from Goa, 265km from Belgaum, 693km from Hyderabad.
