Lakkavalli Dam Overview

The Lakkavalli dam is located near Lakkavalli village situated at a distance of 22 km from Tarikere Taluk, Chikmagalur district. Lakkavalli is the site of a dam across the Bhadra River; the dam is used for irrigation and power production. This is a paradise for bird watchers. More than 250 species of bird life are spotted here. This dam was designed by Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah, the then chief Engineer of Mysore state. There is also Bhadra wildlife Sanctuary at backwaters of this dam. The Bhadra wildlife sanctuary covers a region of 492 Km square. The sanctuary has started a tiger-conservation project called 'Project Tiger' that is an initiative from the Indian Government.
