Archaeological Site of Nalanda Mahavihara is located in the Nalanda district of North-eastern state of Bihar,India. Nalanda was an ancient Mahavihara, a large and revered Buddhist monastery, in the ancient kingdom of Magadha. Spread over an area of 23 hectares, It includes stupas, chaityas, viharas, shrines, many votive structures and important art works in stucco, stone and metal. Recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Nalanda not only boasts of being one of the most revered Buddhist tourism sites in India but also continues to draw attention from scholars, historians and archaeologists. Nalanda Mahavihara is located at 83km from state capital Patna.
